Making Sweet Mincemeat

This week we started to get ready for Christmas !!
We made our own sweet mincemeat for our Mince pies!! Yum!

I have been asked for the recipe so I thought I would put it here !!
Its really easy to make just give it a go !
Your kitchen will smell so delicious while you cook it too !

1 lb Cranberries
8oz shredded suet
8oz sultanaas
8oz Candid peel
Zest and juice of 2 oranges and 2 lemons
Fresh nutmeg grated to taste
8oz apples (Not peeled)
12oz raisins
8oz Currants
12oz Dark Brown soft sugar
2 oz Flaked Almonds
4 teaspoons ground cinamon
6 tablespoons brandy

Mix all the ingredients into a large roasting dish
Leave in a cool place overnight
Cook at 225F for three hours covered with foil
Stir as the mixture cools to coat everything with the melted suet.
When the mixture is cold add the brandy and mix.

Add to sterilised jars and seal.
This recipe makes 2 1/2 litres.

This keeps for ages! Just keep adding Brandy to opened jars if you don't use it
all up and it will keep another year!!!

Have fun making it we did !!!

  1. Personally I don't like sweet mincemeat but over the last few days I have made 4 large Christmas puddings. The kitchen smelled like heaven as they were steaming! Pat x
